Starbank Park is a fabulous community park in north Edinburgh with a beautiful garden and glorious views.
The Friends of Starbank Park is a community action group and, working with the City of Edinburgh Council, we have restored Starbank Park to its former glory. When we started in 2013, the park was near-derelict. The Friends have planted thousands of plants: trees, herbs, fruit trees, shrubs, ferns, herbaceous plants, bulbs and bedding plants. We have removed over 30 tonnes of tons of weeds from the flower beds, refurbished the outbuildings, built composting facilities and added tons of Starbank compost to improve our flower borders.
Starbank Park is back at the heart of the community. Our Easter Egg Hunts and Halloween Parties are now a fixture in local family diaries.
There is a children’s nature trail and we’ve installed two little libraries, one for children and one for adults. The Council has been busy too and, together, we have made a huge difference.
The results of all the effort are widely recognised. Starbank Park is now one of Edinburgh’s very best parks. It was awarded its first Green Flag in 2015 and has maintained this for the past four years. And in 2018 we won the prestigious Horticultural Weekly “Best Neighbourhood Park”, a UK-wide competition!
We work hard to maintain the park and we’d love you to come and help. We hold volunteer gardening parties at the park every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 10.00 to 11.30. Please join us for rewarding, enjoyable and healthy mornings in the fresh air.
