A Super Celebration: 125th Anniversary and Power of Food Festival

The sun shone and all went well. Thanks to all Jean Haigh, Ben Macpherson and Allan Jackson for opening the do and to all our helpers, what a huge effort.

Wednesday Gardening, 6 April, 10-11.30

There’s gardening on Wednesday, usual time.  There’s lots to do and the forecast is fair, well that’s what the Met Office says this afternoon.
Also, thanks to Sandy who has done sterling work drilling out the holes, there are around 20 bird boxes to assemble.  If you’d like to put a few together, please bring some tools (screwdriver and a drill with a fine bit (2mm)) or take 3 or 4 home to assemble later.

We’ve started our fernery

Last month, Friends of Starbank Park were awarded a Community Grant to build a fernery by Keep Scotland Beautiful/Tesco. We’ve really got moving.  The area has been cleared by moving quite a few shrubs and daffodils to elsewhere in the park.  And we planted our first fern this morning, with some very distinguished help!  It is a tree fern, Dicksonia Antarctica, which we were kindly donated.  It’s all very exciting, especially as we’ve started to use our own compost!

Almost like spring

It was warm in the park this morning, some volunteers were even working without jackets!

We continued the weeding marathon, herbaceous borders today, and started on edging the grass beside the paths.  There’s lots of growth and colour, with even the odd rose flowering.  Things are looking good for the summer.
